I wanted to reach out today because I know that the world is rebirthing itself, and it’s intense.
I heard from someone that starting last week and for the next two weeks, we’re experiencing the most intense period of the year. I think it’s important that you know that.
It’s funny how life mirrors these bigger shifts. I’d been away for three days, and when I came home, our door handle fell off the front door—and it’s a heavy door handle! Those little unplanned surprises have a way of knocking us off balance in the moment.
Here’s what I want you to remember: you can always come back into your body and yourself.
It’s easy to get caught outside of your body right now. Believe me, I would be the first to know what it’s like to lose myself in the unending stream of information that comes at us.
In the midst of all this intensity, I heard Michelle Obama say something profound on her podcast: we need to plan for joy.
She pointed out that we’re always planning for our work, but we don’t plan for joy.
Wow. That stopped me in my tracks.
So here’s my invitation to you today: plan for joy.
Especially over these next two weeks when things feel up and down and crazy, but also when hope is returning and people are beginning to feel their power again.
Make a list of what joy looks like for you. It can be beautifully small. Sometimes it’s just getting out of your house and taking a walk. Sometimes it’s savoring a cup of coffee or hot chocolate.
For me? I absolutely love going down into my closet and putting outfits together. It thrills me. I was thinking the other day about how people are always telling us to declutter—which I do… except for my clothes. And I realized why I don’t declutter my wardrobe: it’s like asking a painter to declutter their paints. So I don’t pare down my clothes unless there’s something I genuinely don’t love.
This is your reminder for the days ahead:
Stay in your body. Feel gratitude for what you have, even the smallest things. And look for joy—plan for joy—and experience it fully in the midst of our world birthing itself anew.
Most of all, remember how deeply you are loved.
Love,
Anne
